Bio:
Liz Wiseman teaches leadership to executives around the world. She is the President of The Wiseman Group, a leadership research and development firm headquartered in Silicon Valley, California. Some of her recent clients include: Apple, Dubai Bank, Genentech, Nike, PayPal, Salesforce.com and Twitter. Liz has been listed on the Thinkers50 ranking and named one of the top 10 leadership thinkers in the world.
Innovating in Field of Work:
• In 2010, Liz published her book, Multipliers: How the Best Leaders Make Everyone Smarter. It turned the traditional accepted leadership model on its head and presented one where deploying the genius of others was twice as powerful as being the genius. The research and examples were so compelling, that the book became a Wall Street Journal bestseller, and continues to rank as a top seller in business books.
• From this, Liz created a leadership practice that trained leaders to lead like Multipliers. Starting with the most relevant startups and hot companies in Silicon Valley, CA, the practice has grown to teach leaders in companies worldwide, including industries in technology, biotechnology, healthcare, finance, human resources, education, consumer products, sports and entertainment. Liz continues to share her ideas as a much sought-after, globe-trotting keynote speaker.
Impact:
• Liz herself admits she herself practiced many of the “bossy-pants” leadership styles considered de rigueur, before she had the brain spark that led her to observe and synthesize her findings about the traits in genius-maker leaders that formed the basis for her book, Multipliers. From this she has created a successful career coaching others in these leadership skills.
• Passionate to influence the state of education leadership in schools, Liz wrote The Multiplier Effect: Tapping the Genius Inside Our Schools, and continues to develop people who help grow that branch of her leadership practice.
Role Model:
Soon after graduating from college, Liz jumped right into a huge challenge at Oracle, to create and grow its management education program into Oracle University worldwide. In 17 years, she grew into the role of Vice President of Oracle University and was the global leader for Human Resource Development there. She did all this while raising her family of 4 children with her husband, Larry Wiseman. She makes special efforts to reserve evenings and weekends for family, and makes time to take many educational trips with them. Liz lives as a woman who knows how to balance roles as a parent and partner with that as a highly successful professional, all while keeping her sense of humor.
Reinvention / Risk / Momentum:
Never satisfied with past successes, Liz continues to be a thought leader with work on her next business book, due out in October 2014: Rookie Smarts: How Learning Beats Knowing in the New Game of Work.
“Liz exemplifies a leader who walks the talk.”
